  • Max Stark Larkin, age 94, passed away January 3, 2014, in Salt Lake City. He was born April 23, 1919, in Salt Lake to Alma James and Nellie Jane Stark Larkin. He married Farey Beth \"Bettye\" McClure on September 25, 1939; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

    He graduated from East High School and LDS Business College. He started his career at Larkin Mortuary, the family business, when he was just a teenager. His career spanned seven decades, where he was a funeral director and part owner. He and his brother Alma James Larkin, Jr. \"Jay\" guided and grew their grandfather\s business for over five decades. The family business is now into the sixth generation and one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Utah. He was always proud of his heritage and the service that his family has rendered for 130 years. He served as President of the Utah Funeral Directors Association and was involved with many civic organizations.

    He is survived by his four children: Robert Alma (Marleen), Jane (Jim) Fischer, Ronald Max (Sally), and Lance (Becky); 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, brother, daughter-in-law Rosalie, and two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Mark West.

    Funeral services will be Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 12 noon at the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple. Friends and family may call Wednesday evening 6-8 pm and from 10:30 to 11:40 am on Thursday morning at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
