Bathsheba May Thomander

1916 ~ 2014

Bathsheba May (Fisher) Thomander passed away at home on January 2, 2014, just two weeks prior to her 98th birthday. She was born in Salt Lake City, UT January 16, 1916 to Joseph Armstrong Fisher and Margaret May Merrill. She was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her brothers David Fisher, Clarence Fisher and Joseph Fisher and by her sister Josephine Affleck. She is survived by two children, Dawn Smith of Park City, UT and Darryl Thomander of Palo Alto, CA, as well as 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

"Bashie" graduated from South High School and LDS Business College. She married Avon B. Thomander, of Salt Lake City, in 1938. They lived in Pittsburg PA, San Mateo CA, Los Angeles CA and La Canada CA. Avon, who died in 1976, owned and operated Plastic Fabricating Company. After Avon's death, Bashie moved to Laguna Niguel CA where she later met and married Ashley Robison. He passed on ten years later and she then returned to Salt Lake City, where she lived in the Sugar House area for more than two decades.

She enjoyed serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many callings including Relief Society President. She was an active member of the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers. At the time of her passing, she likely held the distinction of being the only living child of a U.S. Civil War veteran. She was known and loved for her friendliness, easy-going manner, positive attitude and sparkling personality. She will be missed by all. Her resting place is next to Avon in Salt Lake City Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on January 25, 2014, at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
