No man comes with a book of instruction on how to live life, but if any man could have written a book on how to live a great life and be a great person, it would have been Ivan. No greater love could a woman been given than Ivan gave.
Ivan Carlisle Smart was born June 19, 1934 in Union, Utah. He returned to his Father in Heaven March 21, 2014. Ivan married his eternal love, Virginia Smith, on February 12, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Ivan was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the Lord and had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and was never ashamed to be a Missionary no matter where he was. He loved his priesthood and knew it was a precious gift from God and treated it more precious than gold or silver. He is a great man because of the love he has for the Lord. You never had to question the type of man he was. Strong in spirit, love, mind and body. He served in two Bishoprics, as first counselor in both the Granite Ward and the Utah State Prison with Bishop Bay. He served an LDS mission in New Zealand and later served with his wife in New Mexico.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He has 8 children, Eugene (Maria), Jim (Julie), Jody (Greg) Roche, Cindy (Greg) Austin, Penny (Jeff) Crawford, Truman (Lacey), Mindy, 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister Linda Bainum and brother Keith. Ivan is preceded in death by his son Jerry Harold, parents Harold and Lavern Smart, sister Betty Kvist and brother Eldon Smart.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Granite Ward, 9575 South 3100 East. Visitations will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy and from 11:30am-12:30pm on Wednesday prior to the services at the church.
