Robert Vance Davis

1924 ~ 2016

Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend slipped the surly bonds of this life on March 30, 2016, in Salt Lake City. He had just passed his ninety-second birthday.

Bob was born March 18, 1924, in Pasadena, California, and grew up in the nearby town of Monrovia. After serving in the US Army in WWII, Bob finished junior college and art school. A self-proclaimed \"water dog\", he moved to Hawaii, where he became an architect and married the love of his life, Ginna Brummeler. Bob and Ginna had four sons together. Bob would light up, remembering those years as \"really something\", and they were: Living in Kailua, blocks from the beach, with a beautiful, talented, and loving wife and four barefoot little \"nippers\" running around the house and yard.

The family moved to San Diego in 1966. Sadly, Ginna died, much too young, a year later. Family and community helped a ton in raising the boys. Bob Davis soldiered on, setting an example of steadfast determination, working hard every day to care for not only his own boys, but any number of their friends as well. To the very end, he would always ask, \"What can I do to help?\" Bob lived at the same house in San Diego until moving to Salt Lake City, where he spent his waning years with the family of his son.

Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Dad, Uncle Bob, Grandpa, Mr. Davis, or Mr. Pappy, he was kind, gentle, and caring. He saw humor in every situation, knew a thousand jokes, and would always look for a way to get a laugh. He was a gifted illustrator, draftsman, artist, and architect. He loved people, animals, old-time music, race cars, hot rods, and airplanes, especially model airplanes. Bob spent his retirement years designing, building, and flying R/C model airplanes with his buddies at the Chula Vista and Silent Electric Flyers clubs.

Robert Vance Davis is survived by his four sons Sam (Julie), Lambert (Jodie), Art (Maria), and Bill (Chula) and six grandchildren, not to mention a sister-in-law and countless nieces, nephews, calabash relations, and friends. He will be dearly missed; alas, he is already.

Thanks to all who cared for Bob over these past years, especially Yvette, Aimee, Courtney, Monique, and Betsy.

A memorial gathering and brief service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, poolside at the Hyatt Mission Bay Spa in San Diego, 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. Aloha attire, please. There will be friends and family in town from far away, with several other activities in the works. For information, contact one of the Davis boys.
