Kenneth Junior Bate

1928 ~ 2014

Kenneth Junior Bate, a loving, tender, caring husband, uncle and friend passed away peacefully April 3rd, 2014 at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital. He was born in Gridley, California, growing up on a farm with 5 sisters and 3 brothers. He served in the Korean War as an Army infantry soldier. He received the Purple Heart, beingwounded and lost in combat. He trained as a printer, receiving his Printing Certificate from Idaho State University. He also attended Ricks College. Ken worked for the US Postal Service until his retirement.

Ken married Verna Olsen. Several years after Verna passed away, he was introduced to Ana Rosa Restrepo. Their first date was on a hot August day in 1999 when they went for a ride in Ken\s air-conditioned car. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in 2000. He served as a High Priest and in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved singing in the choir. He was a very dedicated, tender husband to Rosa as they served together in the Salt Lake Temple.

He is survived by his wife: Rosa Bate, two brothers,Russell and Bob Bate; step-daughter Sharai Coffey (Mike), two Grandsons, nieces and nephews\". He was preceded in death by his wife Verna Bate and his parents.

Services will be held Friday, April 11 in the LDS Chapel at 2795 East Crestview Drive in SLC, Utah at 11am. Viewing 10-10:45 am. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn 2350 East 1300South, SLC.

Thanks to the many caring and tender care workers at the VA Hospice Care and Hillside Rehabilitation Center in Salt Lake City. Special thanks also to Talita Naulu who served Kenneth when he was living at home.
