Kinko Taylor

1927 ~ 2015

The end is only the beginning.

Kinko (Kay) Taylor passed away at home October 6, 2015. She was born November 3, 1927 in Fussa, Japan, the fourth of seven children born to Yaichi and Mura Machida. She met her sweetheart Milton when he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. They were married July 25, 1958 at the American Embassy in Tokyo, and Kinko left her family and friends and all that was familiar to her behind and headed overseas with her new husband to begin their lives together. They made their home in Salt Lake City where they raised their three children. Kay found her calling as a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She was incredibly talented, she'd make adorable dresses and pantsuits for her children without ever using a pattern. She hand made beautiful Japanese dolls in flowing kimonos with intricate tiny beadwork, all done by hand. She transformed a dry, dusty field full of overgrown grass and weeds into a huge vegetable garden and beautiful flowers bloomed in the yard throughout the year. She'd spend countless hours in a hot kitchen every summer canning and preserving a variety of jams and jellies, and her spicy dill pickles were legendary. She made mouth watering meals every night of the week, homemade pies and bread and candy, she could make anything, and she did it without ever owning a recipe book. Kay did it all, her family was lucky to have her.

Kay is survived by her daughter Lisa, granddaughters Cynthia and Kenadee, great-grandson Hayden, sisters Hiroko and Seiko, and brothers Yukio and Yoshiaki.

Preceded in death by her husband Milton, her daughter Janet, her son Charles, and grandsons Robert and Jeffery.

The family would like to thank Tracy and JT with Sunrise Home Health and Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our mom and grandma. And Matt, the happy chappy— your kindness always made her feel special. Thank you.
