Philip Hurst Rognon

1934 ~ 2016

Salt Lake City, Utah ‚ Philip Hurst Rognon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died peacefully, Sunday January 3rd in Earlysville, VA, at the home of his daughter Deann and Steven Vest. Philip was a member of the Vest household during the past 18 months, following the passing of his beloved wife Gayla. Philip was born June 18, 1934 in Santa Monica CA, to Viola Hurst Kirk Rognon and Robert Alfred Kirk. He married Gayla Jean Service on September 26, 1953. Philip and Gayla were devoted companions for 60 years. He is survived by son Michael (Lara) Rognon ‚ Riverton, daughter Vicki (Samuel) Jackman ‚ Sandy and daughter Deann (Steven) Vest ‚ Earlysville, VA, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. We honor Steven, Deann, Lexi and Madi Vest, who provided Dad/Grandpa with compassionate, loving care during the last eighteen months of his life.

Philip was an avid hunter and fisherman with his closest friends Clair, a close companion and coworker from Interstate Brick and Jim who lived next door. Gayla was a good sport, figuring new ways to cook a limit of ducks, rainbows or mule deer. Philip loved his grandchildren and enjoyed hearing their stories and accomplishments. He will be sorely missed.

A family graveside service will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT) on Saturday, January 9th. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 10:00 to 10:30 am.
