  • Louis E Martineau was the second of four children born to Theodore Jr. and Edith Earl Martineau on April 16, 1930 in Provo, Utah. His childhood was spent in Pleasant Grove and he attended Granite High School.

On August 24, 1950 he married the love of his life Norma Mros in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
During his service, he attended Syracuse University to study the Russian language with additional training at a code school in Massachusetts.
After completion of these courses, he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War. With the conclusion of his military service, he went on to graduate from the University of Utah and began a career with Mountain Bell in Utah and Colorado. Several years later he took a position in management of Data Processing for Hercules Inc. and worked there until his retirement in 1989.

Louis and Norma are the parents of four children, Lisa, Chris, Julie and Kirk. They were committed to having a home where all felt welcome and loved. The sound of play and laughter could often be heard as grandchildren and great grandchildren came together on countless occasions. Nothing was more exciting than the holiday season at the Martineau’s. The passion for Christmas was evident in the décor that adorned their festive home with the crowning spectacle of a magical Christmas Village display that would bring out the childlike awe in anyone.

Louis enjoyed traveling with Norma and their family, playing golf, building and gardening. He was blessed with a keen mind, quick wit and quiet wisdom. His kindness, positive attitude and generous heart made him easy to love.

Louis was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His devotion and example never wavered.

His family would like to recognize and thank the remarkable staff of Legacy House at Park Lane in Farmington, where he lived the last year of his life. They provided family-like care during months of pandemic quarantine and we are most appreciative for the service they rendered on his behalf.

He is survived by: Ron Stephens, Chris (Sherrie) Martineau, Julie (Robert) Fisher, Kirk (Karen) Martineau, 17 grandchildren: Luke, Corbin, Sara, Jeff, Chad, Scott, Mindy, Mike, Nick, Megan, Aaron, Ryan, Rachel, Meredith, Vanessa, Victoria, Elizabeth, 33 great grandchildren, sister, Dawn (Floyd) Wilmore, sister, Dorothy (Leon) Blake, and sister-in-law, Arline Wright. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Norma Mros Martineau, his daughter, Lisa Stephens, and his parents, Theodore Jr. and Edith Earl Martineau.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only Louis’ family will join together to honor him on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Larkin Sunset Gardens @ 11:00 am. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:45 am.

Dearest Lou, you will be forever missed.

Dear Chris, Julie, Kirk and all of the Martineau clan -
I wanted to express my sadness at the passing of your father, Louis Martineau. As a child, he always struck me as a quiet, intelligent, and gracious man. I also appreciated his taste in cool automobiles. I still aspire to acquire a '65 T-bird just like the one I used to see in your garage on our visits to the house in Sandy. And that house!! In combination with Norma's warmth and love (and cooking), and the rest of you always being so nice to your pesky young cousins, your house was one of my favorite places to visit!! As he goes now to sit beside God the Eternal Father, I'm glad he got to enjoy such a long life with his beautiful family. Peace and love to all of you.

Dearest Cousins Chris, Julie and Kirk,

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. He was a man of great character and filled with so much love for his family. He lived a long and full life. He will be rejoining your Mom and Lisa now. May you continue to treasure his memory and continue his legacy through your own lives.

    With deepest love,
    Wanda

    Dear Martineau Family
We want you to know that our family has such a great love for your family! We have treasured memories of Lou and Norma and the "Dinner Club" that we shared with them. Cottonwood Heights was a great place to raise a family because of the amazing people who helped with the job! Our love and sympathy are sent to all of you from all of us!

    Love,
    Lynn and Karen

    Dear Martineau Family,

I wanted to let you all know how much I thought of your father. He was always so special, even came and built a little ramp from our family room to the deck for Phil when he needed some help. I was always amazed at all the building he was always doing at their home here in Salt Lake. I know you will all miss him but I'm sure that he is very happy to be with Norma again and his parents and family. You all were very thoughtful of helping him in his later years with a new home and then living in the senior independent place. I know that Lisa was always going up to stay with him a night or Just visit him. A little message to Louis: Dear Louis I'm happy that you are now back together with Norma. I'm sure you have both missed each other very much you always got along so well. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the Memorial Service. I've been on Home Health for the past 11 weeks and not been able to drive. I have to get someone to take me to medical appointments or get groceries. My daughters have helped a lot and the ward Relief Society also. This virus pandemic makes it harder to do things also because I hate to ask people to go out into society where they might be more apt to catch something in order to help me. I hope you are all doing well. I'm sure it's been hard on you in your work or families. Lets hope we can get this virus thing under control soon and also stop all this rioting and get back to building up our businesses and country. I am so glad to live in this country for the freedom and wonderful possibilities we've had. I appreciate my grandparents and parents coming here for the gospel. That's a big plus for me.

    Love Nellie Morgan
