LeRoy Thomas Flitton

2017 ~ 2017

Our beloved "Daddy," brother, grandfather (Poppa) and great grandfather, LeRoy T. Flitton, age 93 went home to join his sweetheart on August 12, 2017. Dad was born December 14, 1923 in Roy, Utah, to Rupert and Verna Flitton, the oldest of 4 children. He was the only boy and enjoyed pestering his sisters, this began a lifetime of him always being a tease.

He was in the Army Air Corp and met his sweetheart Ruby through an army buddy, her brother, Doyl. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 16, 1945, for time and all eternity. He was always a farmer at heart and loved the land and growing things. He learned to yodel as he drove his John Deere tractor and tried, although unsuccessfully to teach one of his posterity to do the same. He was a mailman for many years and still belonged to the National Association of Letter Carriers, just receiving his 60 year pin. He was a people person and loved talking with those on his mail route and anyone else. We, his children would often say, "We can't go anywhere that Dad doesn't see someone he knows and stops to talk." He also loved working with wood, from "adding on" to our family home, to building cabins, to turning his own wooden bowls on his lathe. He loved to have a project. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He and mother fulfilled a Humanitarian Service mission to Hazard, Kentucky in 1992-94 and helped distribute clothing to those in need.

He loved his family and enjoyed phone calls, visits and sharing his garden produce. He will be greatly missed but "We'll carry on, Dad, just like you taught us! ‘Til we meet again."

Special thanks to our sister Kathy and her daughter Teresa. They gave endless hours of service to Dad, always putting his needs first. We also want to thank Home Instead and Envision Home Health and Hospice for their kind service to Dad, especially Jessica and Jennifer who lit up dad's final days and didn't mind being teased.

Survived by his children, Kenneth (Laura, deceased) Flitton, Leona Palmer, Kathy (Terry) Facer, Scott (Mary) Flitton, Annette (Jon) Fasselin, 21 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. Dad is also survived by his sister, Nola Rae (Archie) Toole. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, his parents, 2 sisters, a daughter-in-law, a grandson and a great grandson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Taylors Grove L.D.S. Ward Chapel, 4845 South (1365 West) Woodhaven Drive, Taylorsville, Utah at 10:00. A viewing will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 and one hour prior to the service from 9:00-10:00. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery, Heber City, Utah.
