David Allan Watts

1927 ~ 2018

David Allan Watts (91) passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 18, 2018 due to incidents related to his age. Dave was born June 27, 1927 in Riverbank, California to Dio James Watts and Hattie Ramona Kitchel Watts. He grew up in Turlock, California. He graduated from San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California in 1945. Dave loved all sports. In high school, he played baseball, basketball, and football. He was the football captain his senior year. After graduation, Dave enlisted in the US Navy and served two years as a corpsman. He was discharged in 1947.

Dave married the love of his life, Rosemarie Haywood, on August 3, 1947 in Kentfield, California. They are the parents of six children, two girls (Kathleen and Saundra) and four boys (Richard, Donald, Neil and David). Dave attended two years at the College of Marin in Kentfield, California. He worked in many different fields. His Union job as a pipe fitter took him to several states including, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Wyoming where he mainly worked on power plants and oil refineries. Dave retired as a pipe fitter in 1990 in Concord, California. After retiring, Dave and Rosemarie moved to Sandy, Utah where they have lived for the past twenty eight years.

Dave and Rosemarie joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1956. They were sealed in the Oakland temple in 1975. Dave was a high priest who served faithfully in all his callings. He and his wife were ordinance workers in both the Jordan River and Draper temples two days a week for twenty five years.

Dave was a lifelong sports fan. He was inducted into his High School Hall of Fame in 2009. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved singing in choirs with his wife throughout their marriage. A hobby Dave loved was cutting gem stones. Together with Rosemarie, they made a lot of jewelry over the years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and had an endearing way of teasing everyone around him. He was a simple, down to earth man with a good heart. Dave was honest, trustworthy, loyal and spiritual. He will be missed by so many.

Dave is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rosemarie; and four children: Saundra Johnson, Oregon; Richard David Watts, Colorado; Donald Gerald (Roxanna) Cassil-Watts, Colorado; David Earl (Michelle) Watts, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dio and Hattie Watts, brothers Thomas Lewis Watts and John Kitchel Watts, daughter Kathleen Ann Watts, son Neil Ralph Watts.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Friends are invited to visit with the family prior to the services from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the Hidden Oaks Chapel at 11755 South 2000 East, Sandy, Utah 84092. Burial at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
