James Vincent Grand-Pre, devoted husband and father, age 73, returned to his Heavenly Father and beloved wife on September 2, 2018.He was born August 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City, UT to Lucy Sophia Mork and Edgar Vincent Grand-Pre. James grew up in Salt Lake City where he attended East High School and graduated in 1963. Jim dedicated his life to service. After serving an LDS mission to Norway, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserve. He later served 45 years as a peace officer in both the Salt Lake City Police and Salt Lake County Sheriff\s Departments. Jim married Jean Marie Hayes on August 28, 1968 in Bountiful. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage. His most important service was to his wife and five children, sometimes working multiple extra jobs in addition to his regular shifts as a police officer to make ends meet. Jim had a significant positive impact on a very many people including his family and strangers in the community. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Jim is survived by his sons Steven (Lisa), David (April), Robert (Nora), Travis (Amy), and Shaun (Ranae), 11 grandkids, 6 great grandkids and his sister Jean Nelson.Preceded in death by his wife, Jean.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Larkin Sunset Gardens,1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
