Jon William Scott

1983 ~ 2016

Jon William Scott, age 33, passed away November 14, 2016, at his home in Hilliard, Ohio. Jon was born on June 8, 1983, in Logan, Utah, to parents W. Dennis and Janet Scott. From his early years, Jon showed remarkable commitment to his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He "grew up" in several locations across the United States, leaving a positive influence wherever he lived.

Jon served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2002-2004, laboring in the California Arcadia Mission. Upon returning from the mission field, Jon began his studies at Brigham Young University, where he met his wife Mindy in the fall of 2004. Jon William Scott and Mindy Ruth Perazzo were married for time and all eternity in the Reno Nevada Temple on July 29, 2005. In the years that followed, Jon and Mindy welcomed three precious children into their family.

Jon graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a degree in Political Science. He then attended Law School at the University of Iowa, graduating with Honors in 2012. That same year, Jon and Mindy moved to Yakima, Washington, where Jon began his professional career working with a local law firm as an attorney.

In July 2013, Jon was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. For the next three and a half years, Jon battled this cancer heroically. He underwent surgery, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy, and gene therapy. The Lord blessed Jon and his family with many miracles and tender mercies throughout this time. Jon was called home on November 14, 2016, while in the presence of his loving family.

Jon was a true disciple of Jesus Christ and was faithful until the end of his mortal life. He was committed to his calling as a husband and father, continually teaching the gospel and sharing his testimony. He also served in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Ward Mission Leader, Elder's Quorum President, and Deacon's Quorum Adviser in the Young Men's organization. He enjoyed reading, learning, and most of all spending time with his wife and children. His family and friends will always remember him as a faithful, kind man who loved freedom and lived a life of integrity and honor.

Jon is survived by Mindy Ruth Scott, his wife of 11 years; his children, Bradley Tillman Scott (8), Emily Ruth Scott (6), and Haley Janet Scott (4); his parents, William Dennis and Janet Lee Alexander Scott; his grandparents Richard Morgan and Jacklyn Alexander; his siblings and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter Ray and Mona Floy Christensen Scott, and his nephew Jacob Henry Besendorfer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 453 South 1100 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will take place prior to the funeral at 9:00 a.m. The family would like to thank the staff at the Ohio State University Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital for their exceptional care and treatment over the last year and a half, as well as the multitude of fellow church members, neighbors, friends, and family for their prayers and service during the last three and a half years.
