Frank Beaumont Jones

1926 ~ 2018

Frank Beaumont Jones died at home on September 27, 2018 in Cottonwood Heights, Utah from age related complications. He was lovingly cared for in his last days by his wife of 67 years and his children.

Dad was born on May 15, 1926 at home in Sugar House, Utah. He was the 4th son and 5th child born to John Benjamin Jones and Alice Bernice Coles. He spent his childhood in the home where he was born. He attended South High School, graduating in 1944. He joined the Navy and began his service right after high school. He served on the USS Marcus Island from 1944-1946. After Dad was discharged from the Navy he was called to serve in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served from 1947-1949, where he made many fond memories. Dad attended LDS Business College, where he studiedaccounting. It was while at LDSBC that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Verla Nielson. He loved to tell the story of how he saw Mom on a hay ride and asked her out. It would bring tears to his eyes every time, right up to the last time he told it. He loved and showed respect to her in all that he did. They were married on June 8, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 8 children.

Dad enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, hiking, church ball, tinkering with his cars, big band music and doing any activity that included his family. He was proud of his posterity and got to where he referred to us simplyas "boy" or "girl" because it was easier to remember than all our names.

Many of his grandchildren were awarded the South High Alumni Scholarship because he had attended there. In his last days, it was his small grandchildren and great grandchildren that brought a twinkle to his eyes.

Dad taught his family the value of hard work. Dad worked as many as 4 jobs at the same time to provide for his large family. He worked for the LDS church for several yearsand then began to work for the Utah Department of Agriculture. He retired from there in 1992 after 26 years of service. He had a small accounting job that he did everyFridaynight and he did yearly taxes for people every winter. Our family had a newspaper route which required Dad to get up about5amto get it done before he had to leave for his day job. He was always so patient when it came to getting one of us children up to help him.

After Dad retired, he loved to travel with Mom. They went on cruises to Hawaii, China and the Panama Canal. They took a train ride across Canada and went to many Navy reunions in various cities in the states. They visited the church historical sites and was able to see Washington DC several times. Dad had the opportunity to attend the World War II Honor Flight in 2015. He served in many callings in the church: scout master, high priest leadership, temple worker, stake financial clerk. But the one that he did the longest was ward financial clerk.

Dad is proceeded in death by his father, his mother, his 3 brothers, one sister,a grandson, a son-in-law and a granddaughter-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, his children, DeeAnn Stohel (Glenn), Michael (Kristy), Clair, Janna Dailey (Steve), Karla Bennett (Steve), Kevin (Bonnie), Vicky Stewart (Mike), Tracy Jeffs (Barton), 28 Grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren,1 Great-Great Grandchild and many nephews and nieces.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to IHC Hospice for all the help they gave us to enable Dad to stay at home and to the Visiting Angels of West Jordan for the loving care that they provided.
