Scott Nicholas Slighting

1959 ~ 2018

Scott Nicholas Slighting our dear husband, father, brother and friend, passed away from complications of Metastatic Melanoma on September 27, 2018 with family by his side. He was born in Newport Beach, California on June 4, 1959 to Adrian Nicholas Slighting Jr. and Vicki Jeanne Crabtree. Scott graduated from East High School where he was an All-American swimmer. He served a full time mission in Canada Toronto for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended the University of Utah where he met his cherished wife Melinda Ririe. They were married in 1985 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1998. Scott worked for UPS for 20 years, starting as a loader, he saw an opportunity utilizing hard work and determination to rise through the ranks to upper management. The family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona for five years. Scott took a chance for a new beginning and accepted a job with Waste Management in Los Angeles for 8 years. He thrived with this company and set up many processes of efficiency and change. Relocating to Reno, Nevada he held the position of Director of Operations. He loved his work and boss, mentored many people and made lifelong friends. Scott learned the value of hard work at a very early age, he always wanted to be the best at everything he did. He earned black belts in Karate and Jujitsu and taught and trained for many years. He was a bicyclist, hill climber, weight lifter, off roader and health and fitness enthusiast. He was an avid fly fisherman, teaching his brother and son to delight in the sport. Scott loved to read and loved self learning and improvement. His greatest joy was his family, he was a devoted husband and father, his goal in life was to provide for and protect his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Melinda, children Sutton Barrus (Erik), Nicholas Russon Slighting (Markell).

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at Noon in the Ensign Peak Ward, 125 N. Sandrun Rd. SLC, Utah 84103. Family and friends may visit from 10:00-11:45 prior to the services on Friday.
