Johanna K. Wachter Hisatake

1936 ~ 2017

Johanna K. Wachter Hisatake passed away in her sleep, with her husband Russ at her bedside on January 10, 2017 in Riverton, Utah. Johanna was born in Bamberg Germany to Heinrich Gregor and Barbara Kohles-wachter on October 30, 1936.

In early 1961, Johanna met Russ who was stationed at the army base in Bamberg, at that time. His military assignment in Bamberg was over in 1963. Russ's next duty station was in Ukiah California. Johanna joined him there in December of 1963 and they were married on the 12th of the month. Russ retired from active military duty in 1974 and the family settled in Draper City.

Johanna loved working with plants and worked at Utah Roses Commercial Nursery in Sandy until early 1994 when she suffered an aneurysm, which resulted in her disability retirement.

Her hobbies and recreational activities included bowling, fishing, attending performances at Capitol Theatre and the Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City. Visits to Wendover and Las Vegas were also part of her recreational agendas. Travel and vacation ventures involved trips to Germany and Hawaii on a 2-3 year alternating cycle.

Johanna was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by two sisters, a brother and sister-in-law in Germany and numerous nieces and nephews. In the U.S. she is survived by her husband Russ and son James; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Evelyn Nunley (UT); brother-in-law Brown T. Hisatake (HI); sister-in-law Tomiko Hisatake (KY) as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Hawaii, California, Utah, Kentucky and New York.

A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary and Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at the mortuary from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the graveside service.
