Gayla Jean Service Rognon

1935 ~ 2014

Salt Lake City, Utah - Gayla Jean (Service) Rognon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully, of natural causes, on June 26, 2014, at the age of 78. Gayla was born August 6, 1935, in Salt Lake County, UT, to Herman Service and Vina Adell Groo, (brothers Virgil and Richard). She married Philip Hurst Rognon on September 26 1953. Gay and Philip were devoted companions, married for 60 years. She is survived by her husband Philip H. Rognon (Salt Lake City), son Michael (Lara) Rognon - Riverton, daughter Vicki (Samuel) Jackman - Sandy, daughter Deann (Steven) Vest ‚ Earlysville, VA, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Gay's labor of love was her dedicated, compassionate service to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Days before birthdays and any other holiday she would write a special note in a card or letter to each family member, never missing any event, often accompanied by dozens of hand-decorated sugar cookies or a crisp $10 bill. She loved her pet dogs and tending her gardens. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be sorely missed.

A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 9:45 am on Wednesday, July 2 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT), followed by a brief graveside service, which was Gayla's desire.
