Stig Axel Stromberg

1930 ~ 2020

Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, Stig "Farfar" Axel Stromberg, returned home on January 18, 2020. He was born September 3, 1930, in Larsmo, Finland to Johannes and Jenny Stromberg and was the 7th of 13 children. He married Ceidie Gudrun Lovisa Eriksson on June 18, 1955.

Stig grew up on a big farm and had to learn to work hard at an early age. He milked cows, cut hay, and helped his mother with the large vegetable garden. His strong work ethic served him well throughout his life. When he was 19, he served in the armed forces. When he returned home two years later, he worked for his uncle at a saw mill, where he learned carpentry skills.

One day he heard about American missionaries who were teaching English lessons. He was interested and soon began taking lessons. They also taught him about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he was baptized in 1953. He met Ceidie at a Church conference in Larsmo in 1955. She lived in Vasa, about 80 miles away, so they had to correspond by mail. They were married on June 18, 1955 and over the next several years had 5 children - Roy, Robert, Christine, Monica, and Susan.

Stig worked as a police officer and also served as Branch President for several years.

The family emigrated to the United States in 1969, where they settled in Sandy, Utah. Another son - Steven - was born there.

Stig was called to be a Scoutmaster and served in that position for several years. He remained active in Scouting after his release and earned his Silver Beaver.

He was also called as a Bishop and served for 5 years.

Stig worked as a carpenter and painter for the remainder of his life and passed these skills on to his children and grandchildren. We always joked in his later years that working hard was the only thing that kept him going.

Stig was a good husband, father, and friend. He always went out of his way to speak to strangers, wherever he happened to be. His favorite haunting ground was the local Home Depot, and he always looked for an excuse to go there. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and was always willing to share it with others.

He is survived by his children: Roy (Connie) Stromberg of Draper, UT, Robert (Bonnie) Stromberg of Riverton, UT, Monica (Mike) Dasenbrock of South Jordan, UT, Susan (Eric) Cox of Williamsbug, VA, and Steven (Natalie) Stromberg of West Jordan, UT. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christine (Brent) Jensen of West Jordan, UT, and grandson Chase (Steven and Natalie) Stromberg. He is also survived by his sisters Agneta, Berit, Marty, and Linnea, and 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

We love you and we'll miss you, Farfar!
