Karen Sue Livingston Geertsen

1951 ~ 2016

Karen Sue Livingston Geertsen, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City on September 16, 2016. She was born in Lebanon, Missouri on December 28, 1951. Her parents were Ralph Traywick Livingston and Mary Carolyn Smith Livingston of Linn Missouri. She married her beloved husband, Dennis Call Geertsen on December 6, 1991. They resided in Sandy, Utah.

Karen was a Registered Nurse and Lactation Consultant for 38 years, 23 of which were with the Sandy Pediatric Clinic of Intermountain HealthCare. For 20 years she qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She served many thousands of infants and \"moms.\" Privately she served many hundreds more without charge. Her husband has stated, "I can\t count the number of inspirational and emotional stories she has shared with me . . . . giving the Lord credit for her success." She has also said, \"It is difficult for me to put in words the joy I feel when I see a mom leave my office with a big smile on her face and renewed self-confidence with her infant who is obviously well satisfied.\"

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings since her conversion in 1975. Her most enjoyable calling was teaching children.

Karen loved people and had many friends, as well as close friends of all ages. She loved to share her many talents and hobbies with others and guided numerous young people in life decisions. She loved to talk about Christ and demonstrated her love for him by precept and example.

Despite many physical challenges, she celebrated life with joy and thanked God for each year and blessing. Each day to her was an expression of gratitude.

She is survived by her husband, sister Mary Carson (Charlie), brother Steve, daughter Jennifer Jessop (Danny) and Elizabeth Dark (Heather), her two grandsons (Mason and Cooper Dark), cousins, nieces and nephews and her husband's five children and 17 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. Dimple Dell Road- 10600 S) on Tuesday, September 20 at 11:00 am preceded by a visitation from 9:30 am to 10:45 am and a visitation on Monday, September 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
