Kin Hei Wong

1929 ~ 2019

Kin Hei Wong, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2019 of natural causes incident to age.

Born on May 30, 1929 in Toisan, China to Ghee Ngee and Yuet Lan Wong, he spent his formative years and was educated in China.

He married Ah Sim Chan on February 24, 1956. He then immigrated to Hong Kong with his new wife and widowed mother. There, he trained and worked as a barber. This was the beginning of the many journeys he would take in search of a better life and new possibilities.

In 1963, he had the opportunity to go west to Nassau, Bahamas to work as a chef in a relative's Chinese restaurant. Thinking to the future for his family which now included two young children, Roland and Jane, he and his whole family made the move to a place where they did not speak the language (English) and started anew. He and Ah Sim worked endless hours and long days in the restaurant to provide for their growing family which would soon include another son, Wilson.

Once again, in his continuing effort to improve their children's chances of success in the future, in 1972, he and Ah Sim accepted a sponsorship to move to Utah to work in another relative's restaurant. They continued to toil long hours and days in several restaurants so their children could pursue their own dreams and careers. Slowly, he was able to achieve his own dream of living in the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen on June 24, 1993.

Kin Hei Wong is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ah Sim, and their children and grandchildren: Roland and Anna Wong and their children, Alana and Ryan; Jane and Vernon Liu and their children, Jonathan, Jessica, and Julianne; and Wilson and Heather Wong and their sons, Ken, and Izaac Wilcox.
