William Preston Moore

1934 ~ 2019

Bill Moore passed away peacefully December 4, 2019 at age 85, in Orem, Utah. He was born June 7, 1934 in Ellijay, Georgia to Grady and Velma Watkins Moore, the third of thirteen children. He graduated from Patterson High School in 1949 at the age of 14. He married his sweetheart Sharon Shane Lois Johnson on December 20, 1955 and enjoyed 64 years by her side. They were blessed with 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. A deeply devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, Bill was ambitious, kind, loving, understanding, happy, smart, energetic, religious, patient (unless pushed beyond reasonable limits) and a true optimist. Bill\s joyful smile and optimistic attitude would light up a room.

Bill enjoyed people and made lasting friends with everyone he met. He always felt a great compassion for other people and blessed whenever he could help them. He was quick to lend a hand and generous without judgment. His genuine and personal warmth made every person he met feel like family.

Bill attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, Georgia for two years completing an Associate's degree in Accounting. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Engish with Minors degrees in Biology and Greek from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He also attended graduate school at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University where he received his Master's Degree in Education Administration.

Bill completed three years with the Army Security Agency, in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, from 1956-1959. He was a Sergeant in charge of Officer Personnel Division.

Bill retired in July of 1996 after completing 37 years as a Hospital Administrator and several years as one of HCA\s Regional Vice-Presidents with Administrative responsibility for 15 hospitals in five states. Bill was Assistant Administrator/Business Office Manager at Primary Children\s Hospital, CEO at South Davis Community Hospital, and CEO at Lakeview Hospital. He led all efforts to open the new Lakeview Hospital in September 1976.

Bill worked for the State of Utah Department of Commerce supporting Pre-litigation panels and hearings for 33 years.

Bill loved to serve the community. He served on numerous boards, including; Utah School Boards Association (20 years), Davis County School District (12 years), South Davis Community Hospital (14 years), West Ridge Academy (4 years), Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce (served two terms as President), Utah Association of HealthCare Providers, Bountiful City Council Member and Board Member of Bountiful City Power Commission.

Bill received many awards for his service including the "Distinguished Service Award" for the Outstanding Young Man of Davis County by the Bountiful Jaycees on January 21, 1966. He was also confirmed as an honorary member in Who's Who Worldwide in February 1992 as a result of demonstrated leadership and achievement in his occupation, industry and profession.

Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished his opportunities to serve. He held a variety of callings, including Sunday School Teacher, Young Men's, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group 1st Assistant, Bishopric, High Council, Service Missionary at Lakeview Hospital and Ward Funeral Director for 17 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife Shane; children Michelle (John) Hall, Sydney (Ken) Allen, Bill (Teri) Moore, Brooke (Will) Bowyer, Todd (Kristen) Moore; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Roy (Barbara) Moore and Dennis (Henrietta) Moore; two sisters, Rachell (Donald) Halls and Geraldine McKendree, and two sisters-in-law, Joann Moore and Elaine Moore. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers Henry Grady Moore, Harold Troy Moore, Rufus Grady Moore, Rowland Lewis Moore; and four sisters, Mary Laverne Moore, Sarah Ovaleen Rogers, Laura Maybeline Norman, Irene Norman. A public viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2019 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Bountiful Oak Hills Chapel, 455 S. 1200 E., where a viewing will be held from 11:30-12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
