Richard Anthony Vidal

1971 ~ 2015

Richard Anthony Vidal, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed from this life to the next on December 25, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He fought a good fight against Lymphoma this last year and was so brave to the very end. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Richard was born on May 14, 1971 in Sydney, Australia to Jorge and Flor Vidal, the fourth of five children. His family moved back to Chile after living in Australia for four years. He grew up in Chile where his family met the LDS missionaries and joined the church. Richard moved back to Australia after graduating from high school with honors. He lived, worked, and learned English in Australia. In 1995, Richard was called to serve a mission in the Chile, Santiago Norte Mission. He applied and was accepted to BYU in 1998 where he studied computer engineering and Information Technology. He met and married Kari Vidal in 1999 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had four beautiful children together. Richard worked for several companies through his career where he learned many skills and made many friends. He was grateful to be working for the LDS church this last year as a principal software engineer.

Richard had so many talents and hobbies. He was always making things with his hands including furniture, Halloween costumes, paper structures, and a chicken coup. He was naturally athletic and loved gymnastics, cycling, tennis, and racquetball. Richard was a big fan of BYU football, Utah Jazz, and soccer, especially the Chilean National Soccer team. One of his favorite things to do was to go on spontaneous adventures with his family in the mountains, explore the national parks in Utah, and travel to new places. He was always well organized, detail-oriented, and financially responsible and throughout his whole life he loved to collect things such as stickers, stamps, money, and most recently Lego figurines. What gave him the greatest pleasure in this life was helping his parents, siblings, wife, and kids to whom he was unfailingly generous. Richard had such a huge impact on his family and friends. He loved the church and serving in his callings and serving in the temple.

Richard is survived by Kari, his loving wife of 16 years; his children Kailey, Spencer, Bryce, and Elise; his parents Jorge and Flor; his siblings and their spouses Ingrid and Dale Robey, Alexis and Romina Vidal, Edith and Flavio Pizarro, and Andrea and Mauricio Araya; and 9 nieces and nephews.
