Orin Hatch Parkin

1920 ~ 2015

Orin H. Parkin, 94, of Salt Lake City passed away March 29, 2015. Born Oct. 2, 1920 in Lake View, Beaverhead, MT, he was the second of seven sons born to Kimball Mann Parkin and Florence Woodward Hatch. Orin married his sweetheart, Martha Jane "Wanda" Rowbotham in 1940. They were blessed with three sons: Orin Lamont, Leslie Allen, and David. In 1952, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Orin served his country honorably during the Second World War, and always held sacred the responsibilities his service required. Orin served in Luzon in the Philippines, helping to provide supplies to the Army on the front lines. Later he was assigned to Korea. Now, he is the last of the five Parkin brothers who served, to pass away. He was a truck driver for over 50 years and his favorite home away from home was Alaska, where he loved to fish and sometimes pan for gold. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kimball, Glenn, Wallace and George; his wife Wanda; son Lamont (Kathy), and baby David. Orin is survived by brothers Bruce and Max Parkin; son Leslie Allen (Christine) Parkin; grandchildren: Christopher Parkin, Natalie Clements, Amanda Rogers, Eddie Berntsen, Steven Berntsen, Michael Parkin, Jenny Call, and Deanna Parkin. He leaves 12 great grandchildren.

A viewing is set for Wednesday April 1 from 6-8 pm at Larkin Mortuary 260 E South Temple. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2 at 12:00pm also at Larkin Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 E 4580 S., where he will be buried with military honors. He was a man of strong character and self-determination.
