Douglas L. Dumas

1937 ~ 2018

Doug passed away on August 25, 2018 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born June 1, 1937 to Charles Arlo and Emily Merelda Peart Dumas. He married his high school sweetheart Arva Sampson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past February.

He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Doug held many callings including Elders Quorum President and High Priest Group Leader. After 6 months of marriage, he and Arva were called as Stake Dance Directors where the went to all the wards to teach the dances in preparation for the yearly Dance Festivals. He also served in the Jordan River Temple as an Ordinance Worker.

Doug was an avid gardener and took pride in his yard, it was his showpiece. He was always the first person in the neighborhood to get started each Spring. After taking an upholstery class, he and Arva had a side business where they worked together for over 30 years. He loved working with the family raising chickens and mink. He especially enjoyed working alongside his father-in-law.

He worked at United Fence Company for 40 years before he retired. He was always dependable and a very hard worker. He was always mindful of those around him and would do anything for anyone.

He is survived by his wife, daughters Debra (Tom) DeFa, Paula (Okusi) Ataata and Teresa (Keith) Phillips, grandchildren and great grandchildren Zack and Melanie Ataata (Leka, Leilah and Harper), Chris Ataata, Sarah Ataata and Michael Ataata, sister Norma Dean (Larry) Hawkinson and brother Ben Dumas. Preceded in death by his son Michael, parents, brothers Glen Dumas and Lynn Dumas, sisters Dorothy Growcock, Lola Walje, Jean Thompson and Carolee Luhrs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Country Park 3rd Ward, 1988 West 11400 South, South Jordan, UT. A viewing will be held Friday evening at the church from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
