Donna May McClure Summerhays

1931 ~ 2016

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and wife passed away on December 31, 2016 with her family by her side.

Donna May was born on September 22, 1931 in Salt Lake City to Theodore R. Lowther and Mable L. Anderson Lowther. She was the eldest of five children and is survived by her brother, Jim. Donna May attended South High School, where she met and later married Ralph Young McClure (married: June 1949, later divorced). They had three wonderful sons, Steve (Travis), Garth (Deceased), Brad (Tess). Donna May had nine beautiful grandchildren, as well as nine great grandchildren whom she loved greatly. She was fondly known by her grandchildren as "Nana".

Donna May attended the University of Utah and then proceeded to work for the U of U College of Health for 11 years. She also worked for the Department of Public Safety for 8 years and worked at the State Capitol for 12 years. Because Donna May had a passion for helping others she spent the majority of her career working with people.

In 1988 Donna May met her future husband, Walter Summerhays. They were married shortly after, in May of 1989. The two of them were happily married and lived, laughed and loved until "Pops'" passing in November of 2012. Walt had two children, Sue (Jim) and Michael (MaryAnn).

Walt and Donna May loved to travel all over the states, as well as out of the country in their favorite "home on wheels", the bus. They spent half of their time living in Beaver Dam, Arizona, where they shared many great memories with their friends. Walt and Donna May also held season tickets to the University of Utah Football Games for years, Go Utes!

Donna May lived a long, happy, and excitement filled life. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and spent a great deal of time with her family and friends. She will be GREATLY missed.

We would like to thank all those who gave our mother such great love and care in her final months, especially Mia and Jill, Mom loved you!!
