Carol Crandall Spendlove

1926 ~ 2013

Carol Crandall Spendlove passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born in Provo, Utah Oct. 13, 1926 to Eugene Crandall and Afton Ruth Brimhall. She graduated from Provo High in 1944, married her husband J. Clifton Spendlove Dec. 6, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Cliff sold his rabbits and stamp collection to pay for them to get married and they hitchhiked home from the temple.

Carol was a riveter building aircraft during WWII while Cliff fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. Carol owned a ballroom dance company while living in Maryland and was later a realtor in Salt Lake. Cliff was the director for a Defense Department germ warfare lab and together, in the capacity of work with the CIA, they caught Russian spies who were interested in Cliff's work. She and Cliff traveled the world, ran Elderhostel tours, led Utah West Desert bus tours and conducted world excursions for Brian Judd Tours. Carol served 25 years in the LDS Church History Museum, as a docent and helped write books about Church history. She wrote a book "So You Want to Be a Landlord" published articles in the newspaper and the Ensign Magazine. Carol and Cliff entertained at the family cabin and their home in St. George, Utah. She was a devout member of the LDS Church. Most importantly, she loved her family; made sure we had reunions and celebrated Christmas together presenting everyone with a yearly family photo calendar. This was to keep her children and grandchildren together as a family. We love you, Mom, and look forward to that time when we can be together again.

Carol's husband of 64 years, Cliff, passed away in 2009. Carol married Darrell Berrett in 2010 and they enjoyed a sweet relationship. Carol's family is grateful for the companionship Darrell provided.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, J. Clifton Spendlove, her son Michael Jon Spendlove, her granddaughter Jessica Moench, and her brother Valgene Crandall. She is survived by her children, David (Gretta), Nancy Moench (Darrell), Alan (Lindy), Janice Moreland (Vincent), 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, sister Betty Pounds and husband Darrell Berrett.
