Mabel Ardis Rast Price

1915 ~ 2017

Mabel Ardis Rast Price, age 101, peacefully passed away February 8, 2017 at her home in Highland, Utah. Ardis was born November 11, 1915 to James Jeremiah Rast and Mabel Eloise Roberts Rast. Blessed with a sunny disposition, she had a happy childhood in a close-knit family.

She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1934 and continued her education at Florida State College for Women (now FSU) for 2 Ω years.

With hope of finding a righteous husband and being married in the temple, she left Florida in 1942, took a bus across country to Salt Lake City and moved into the Beehive House, then a home for young single women. She soon met Burton Horne Price, had a whirlwind courtship, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple April 5, 1943. Three children followed: Paul, Edris and Mary Ann. She loved being a wife and mother, finding her greatest happiness in her home. She was a second mother to many.

She served diligently in the Church throughout her life, teaching classes and serving in leadership positions of the Primary, YWMIA, and Relief Society. While living in California, she served as a temple ordinance worker and supervisor in the Los Angeles Temple. It was her favorite calling. She supported her husband while he served as Bishop three times and as he presided over the Samoan Mission (1965-1968). They served a second mission as ordinance workers in the Manila Philippines Temple (1987-1989), and a third mission as President and Matron of the Apia Samoa Temple (1989-1992).

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Burt, and son Paul. Survived by her daughters Edris Purdy (Stephen), Mary Ann Whale (David), daughter-in-law Christine Price, 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Intermountain Hospice. Kim, Jennifer and Brooke, we love you.
