David Lee Mott

1950 ~ 2018

David Lee Mott passed away peacefully in his home on September 18, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 6, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ruth and Veral Mott.

Dave graduated from SLCC in Welding and Electrical. He was employed as a welder for 2 years, electrician for 7 years, before owning and operating Utah Chassis and Machine for the past 38 years.

Dave's biggest accomplishment was his son Jaren. He was so proud of him. Dave had a love for cars and racing. Whether it be drag racing, sprint cars, jet cars, salt cars, sand dragsters, even go karts, Dave had a passion for it. He was a multi-time track champion at Bonneville Raceways, now Rocky Mountain Raceways. He passed his love of racing to Jaren who answered his dreams by becoming a very accomplished racer in drag racing, sprint cars, and most recently piloting jet dragsters.

Many racers would tag Dave as one of the legends and patriarchs in drag racing. Dave was also a talented craftsman, accomplished machinist, and built hundreds of race cars for racers from all over. He was known for his wealth of knowledge and always ready to help a fellow racer. Dave was a very patient, gentle soul who touched the lives of many during his life. He will be missed more than words can express.

He is survived by his long-time loving wife of 47 years, Leslie and the most important person in his life, his son Jaren (Stephanie) Mott. He is also survived by his brother Daniel Mott, sister Linda Mott and many wonderful brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and the greatest friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Lee Mott, father Veral Duane Mott and brothers Donald and Douglas Mott.

A very special THANK YOU for all the loving care from Dr. Barbara Cahill, Dr. Sanjeev Raman, Tauni and Kelly.
