Mac L. Hansen

1930 ~ 2014

Mac Hansen passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mac was born in Salt Lake City the son of Lincoln T. and Della S. Hansen. He was raised and spent the majority of his life in the Parleys area. As a boy, he loved to ride his horse along the east bench of Salt Lake. He contracted polio at the age of 13, but recovered and maintained relative good health his entire life. He was student body president of Granite High School where he also enjoyed playing basketball. He served an LDS mission in the hills of Kentucky. Mac returned and attended school at the University of Utah where he obtained a Business Degree. While there he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Jeri Lu Crowther, in a dance class. They were married on March 3, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mac served in the army during the Korean Conflict. He was a hard worker and founded a successful construction company. Mac and Jeri Lu raised their family in the same neighborhood of his youth. His faith was the cornerstone of his life and family. He served in various church positions including bishop of the Parleys 5th ward. Mac and Jeri Lu served two LDS Church Missions, one at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the other in the St. George Historical Sites Mission. Jeri Lu preceded him in death on June 7, 2005. Mac met and fell in love with Valene Hanson and they married May 5, 2007 in the St. George Temple. Mac and Val have enjoyed living in the St. George area for the past few years.

Mac loved family, church, horses, golfing and Saturday morning basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family at Lake Powell, Jackson Lake as well as many other adventures.

Mac is survived by his wife, Valene; children, Teri Lyn (Sid) Baucom, Shelly (Tony) Tingey, Kent (Tami) Hansen, Steven (Caryn) Hansen; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; Valene's four children and their families; sister, Emma Lou Jowers and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeri Lu; granddaughter, Morgan Baucom and sister, Beth Ann Hopkins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 25th, at 11:00 am in the Parleys 5th ward chapel, 2625 East Stringham Ave. Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South and Saturday at the ward from 9:30 to 10:45 am.
