Betty Jo Morrow Clawson

1930 ~ 2014

Betty Jo Morrow Clawson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, November 15, 2014. She was born July 15, 1930 at Love's Branch, near Hampshire, in Maury County, Tennessee. Betty Jo was the tenth of twelve children born to Connie Ulner Morrow and Edna Alice Scott Morrow. She grew up in a loving home and adored her mother and father. For over 20 years, various grandparents lived with the family and she fondly remembered these relationships. She graduated from Hampshire High School in 1948 and attended Columbia Business College before taking a job with DuPont in Nashville. She served in the East Central States Mission of the LDS Church.

Betty Jo left her home in Tennessee and moved to Utah to pursue her goals and be married in the temple. In 1955, she met Wayne L. Clawson and was sealed for time and all eternity to him in the Logan Temple. Five children were born to Betty Jo and Wayne. They founded Galaxie Lighting in 1972. Betty Jo worked tirelessly in the lighting business and took great pride in its success. She served in many callings in her church, including Relief Society and Young Women's presidencies. She was a ward librarian for over 15 years. For most of her adult life, she immersed herself in family history research, finding countless ancestors, from multiple family lines, in many different states and countries. She rejoiced in these long-deceased relatives' stories and cried for them in their forgotten sorrows.

Betty Jo enjoyed visiting her family in Tennessee, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She cared for those in need and always reached out to those she could comfort with a word or a deed. Her children and family remained the focus of her life. She loved them without end and remained a strength to them until the end of her earthly life.

She is survived by her husband and children: Wayne Jr. (Debbie) Clawson, Christi (Bruce) Mabey, Catherine (Bill) Flury, John (Julie) Clawson, Mark (Pam) Clawson, 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and sisters in Tennessee: Mildred Parker and Connie (Taylor) Rayburn. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.

Services will be held at noon on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Willow Creek 7th Ward, 2115 E. Creek Road in Cottonwood Heights.
