Alvin Dean Baker

1927 ~ 2016

Alvin Dean Baker, 89, passed peacefully at his home on September 27, 2016. He was born September 16, 1927 in Milford, Utah to Alvin H. and Saraessa Harris Baker. In 1940, Dean moved with his parents and sister, Elaine, to Salt Lake City where he graduated from South High School. Soon after, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a staff sergeant in the Motor Pool.

In June 1956, he met and married Marjorie Miner. Together they had three children but later divorced. In 1961, Dean graduated with a B.S. degree in Geography from the University of Utah and also earned a teaching certificate. He taught school briefly and also worked at Zellerbach Paper Company, but the majority of Dean's career was spent as a driver for Milne Trucking, from which he retired.

He married Edith Smith on June 7, 1974 and they resided in Sandy, Utah. Prior to her passing in 1996, Dean and Edie enjoyed traveling to many exciting destinations such as Hawaii, South America, Europe and Asia.

Dean is survived by his three children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. He is also survived by Edie's three children, six of their children and two of their grandchildren. Our dear Dad and "Grandpa Dean" will be missed very much.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake from 6-8 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 13. Family and friends may also attend a brief graveside service at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 prior to interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (106th South).
