After a remarkable 89 years of life and with a foundation built on spiritual loyalty, hard work and love, Don Thorpe Machin passed away on September 7, 2018 and joined his parents and brother Robert who preceded him.
Don\s journey began on theFebruary24, 1929. He was born to Percy and Beatrice Machin in Salt Lake City, and from day one until his last breath, took on every challenge and opportunity life threw at him with faith and strength.
He attended Logan High and graduated from Utah State University in 1950. Here Don showcased his passion for sports and a strong work ethic. He played football for the university and joined Sigma Chi which cemented him as a life-long fan of the Aggies. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa. Upon his return, he began a loyal career working for Chevron Oil for 35 years.
Don continued to fuel his passion for sports by coaching and refereeing young men in the community for most of his life. His love of sports paled in comparison to his love of family and especially the love of his life, Norma Parson Machin. Their temple marriage of 68 years has become the exemplary strong roots of a loving family tree that began with their 2 children Pat Hoggan and Jeff Machin.
Golfing, playing cards, annual family trips to the mountains, and personal lectures in his office will be incredibly missed by Don\s 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His physical presence will be missed, but the family\s faith in the eternal plan leavesus happy and comforted that he is with his Father in Heaven and will be seen again.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at The Hidden Valley Country Club, 11820 Highland Drive, Sandy, UT. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday at the Logan City Cemetery.
