Gladys Michael Badgett Woodmansee

1933 ~ 2017

Gladys Michael Badgett Woodmansee passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29th at 9:39 in the morning surrounded by her beloved husband and sons. Born the fourth of six children to Anda and Gracie Badgett on September 16, 1933 in New Harmony, West Virginia, Gladys grew up working hard, getting her first job at the age of 10. She was able to show off her talented singing voice as a backup singer on the local Baptist radio station. This led to opportunities to sing with such stars as Kitty Wells, Grandpa Jones, and June Carter. Joining the LDS church at the age of 14, Gladys moved to Salt Lake City by age 16. She met and married her sweetheart Albert Joseph Woodmansee 5 years later, and they were married August 17, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for 61 glorious years. Throughout her life, Gladys served those she loved through countless baby quilts, sewing, crocheting sacrament table cloths, and many other crafts which she shared with her friends and neighbors. A voracious reader, she had a hard time putting down a good book. She embraced the outdoors and knew how to make a camping trip comfortable, even taking the boys camping without dad. Service was a hallmark of her life, serving in the Relief Society as well as many other church callings. She also served in the community through the Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America (with 5 Eagle Scout Sons), PTA president many times, several community boards, as well as the Suicide Hotline. She is survived by her husband Albert, and Sons (Joseph Quinn, Adrian Lavon, Elliot Shawn, Malcolm Lorne, and Dirk Sebastian), as well as sisters Karen Hicks of Ohio, and Phyllis Morris of Iowa. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, brother Avin, brother Bud, sister Maude Atkins, and her daughter, Joan Samantha. A viewing will be held in her honor Wednesday, May 3, 2017 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Southgate Ward building, 2702 Main Street, South Salt Lake City, Utah 84115. There will be an additional viewing Thursday, May 4, 9:30 am to 10:45 with funeral services to follow. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy Utah 84092.
