Rozella Smith Dangerfield

1925 ~ 2015

Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away on February 27, 2015. Her death came after a ten year battle with dementia. Rozella was born December 20, 1925. She was the daughter of John Henry and Leona McDonald Smith. Her parents and older brother John Edward Smith have preceded her in death. She is survived by her son David (Diane) Dangerfield and daughter Allison (Mike) Hirano, eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rozella grew up with her family in Holladay, Utah graduated from Granite high school in 1943 and with her bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, in 1948 as English major.

She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala and faithfully filled many callings as teacher of the gospel and Relief Society leader. Her membership in and active participation was a critical and important part of her life. She talked often of her love for her Savior and the importance of adherence to the gospel standards.

Wilbert Charles Dangerfield (Wib) and Rozella were married in the Salt Lake Temple January 13, 1954. As a new bride she became the mother for Wib's son David. Family was central in her life. Throughout her life she actively promoted family outings, activities and extended camp out "get togethers" with the Dangerfield's and her brother's family the Smiths.

Education was a central part of Rozella's life. She taught in the public schools both elementary and high school. In her midcareer she obtained a Master's degree from the University of Utah and then worked in the public schools in special education and as school librarian. She would often take opportunity to encourage and assist her children and grandchildren in their pursuit of education.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held at the mortuary Tuesday March 3, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Holladay Memorial Park.

The family is deeply appreciative of the quality of personal care, genuine concern and love from all the staff of Avalon\s Woodland Park Center through the many years of service to Rozella.
