Louise Painter Church

1922 ~ 2018

Louise Painter Church, born December 17, 1922 in Burley, Idaho to John Seth Painter and Godelia Folkman Painter, passed away on September 1st at her home in Highland Park, Illinois. She was surrounded by her loving daughter, Kristeen Church, and her adoring son, J. Thomas Church.

She is reunited with the love of her life, Thomas Holm Church, who passed away on May 11, 1997 and with her devoted daughter, Kelle Church Robbins, who passed away on August 22, 2015. Louise was preceded in death by her siblings; Virginia Nichols, Vern Foster, Sue Higgins, John Seth (Bud) Painter Jr., and Sylvia Hill. Louise and Tom sealed their family for time and all eternity on November 8, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Louise was the youngest daughter of six children. She absolutely adored her parents and her siblings. As a child, Louise enjoyed living on a farm and caring for the sheep, and she relished in being the baby of the family. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang during a large stake conference meeting. She met Tom in the ninth grade, but it wasn't until he returned from serving in England during WWII, that they married. They moved from Burley to Moscow, so Tom could attend law school at the University of Idaho, and it was there that they welcomed their first child, J. Thomas (Butch) into the world. Two years later they welcomed Kristeen and ten years later they welcomed Kelle.

The Church family spent their summers with Louise's sisters' families on a ranch in Montana and also at Cheery Pine cabin, near Sun Valley. The families looked forward to and loved this time together. Louise loved spending time with her two sisters who both lived within a block, and holidays were always celebrated with big family meals coordinated between the three sisters.

Louise was a beautiful woman who exemplified grace, elegance and style.

She loved her family above all else and genuinely delighted in being a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother. She taught her children through her sweet example, and she was always very proud of them. Louise loved to cook and bake, and her family will always remember their favorite foods that she effortlessly made for them upon request. She was an avid bridge player, a bit of a golfer (to keep up with her husband) and she loved fly-fishing.

Louise was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and diligently served in many callings. Louise was compassionate and supportive of everyone in her life and took the time to listen, talk with, uplift, sympathize with and love them all.

She was loved by all who knew her, and while everybody wanted to adopt her for their own, Louise's family is very grateful for her incredible health and longevity that kept her in their lives. She will be wistfully missed and always remembered by her two living children, J. Thomas Church and Kristeen Church, her nephew John (Pam) Hill, her niece Karen (Bruce) Skanchy, her six grandchildren, Whitney Foley (Matt), Rebecca Lowe (Matt), Ashley Quicksilver (Jeff), Braidy Hunt (Daylon), Matt Robbins, Seth Robbins, her nine ‚ soon-to-be 10 ‚ great-grandchildren, and all her extended family and friends.

A funeral service for Louise will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Federal Heights LDS church building located at 1300 East Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, Utah. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1:00 at the Pleasant View Cemetery located at 1645 East 16th Street in Burley, Idaho.
