Mark Eugene Kelly

1953 ~ 2015

Mark Eugene Kelly, 62, died unexpectedly on Wed., May 27, 2015. He was born May 17, 1953 to Burton C. and JoAnne Barfuss Kelly. His early years were spent in the Midwest where he father attended graduate school in Michigan and Illinois. The family moved to Orem, UT in 1962, where Mark attended elementary, junior, and senior high school.

He had been married 41 years to Denise Dixon Kelly, formerly from Orem, UT. They initially lived in Provo but relocated to the Salt Lake Valley in 1985. They are the parents of 2 children, Lisa A. (Rick) and Jason P. (Jessica) Kelly; also grandparents of 2, Brandon J. Jensen (Jeff deceased) and Gage A. Kelly.

Mark graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1991. He was an honor student and member of Tau Beta Pi, Honor Society for Engineering and Eta Kappa Nu, Honor Society for Electrical Engineering.

He was employed the past 19 years by Myriad Genetics in Salt Lake City, where he worked as a Support Engineer and Computer Programmer. Mark felt fortunate to be able to work as part of a team of professionals helping to make a difference in the world. He grew to really care for his co-workers and loved being a part of the Myriad Team. Mark loved the outdoors and especially backpacking and hiking in the High Uintas. He also loved skiing and target shooting. He was an avid reader and loved learning. The family shared a love and respect of all animals but especially their dogs and cats and had many pets over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Denise, his children and his parents, along with five brothers, Michael (Lisa), Paul (Monica), John (Kristine), Stephen, Philip (Greta), and two sisters, Deborah (Ray) Christensen, and Mary Kay (Eric) Pfost., and by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the 30th Ward chapel located at 89 E. 11000 S. in Sandy, Utah at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015. An informal memorial service will be held at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S. the same evening from 6 to 8 pm.
