Richard Desmond Dickson

1931 ~ 2018

On August first, beloved husband and father, Richard Desmond Dickson peacefully passed away, as the result of multiple strokes. Richard was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 20, 1931 to Lyle D. and Twila Dickson. Richard grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High. Richard served in the Army during the Korean War and loved his country. Richard went on to pursue higher education, where he earned a Bachelor's, Master's, and a Doctorate degree in Music Composition from the University of Utah. Richard married Sharilyn Stewart on April 25th, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple, and had two sons, Stewart William, and David Robert. Richard loved music and pursued a career as a professional violinist in the Utah Symphony Orchestra where he played for 43 years. He also composed many musical pieces including Symphonies and Concerto's. Other hobbies included skiing, reading, crossword puzzles and building museum quality scale models.

Richard is survived by his sons Stewart (Lorraine) and David (Danielle), 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 am. at the Emigration 4th Ward Chapel at 589 East 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City. A visitation will be held prior to the services, at the same location at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Holladay Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made at www.LarkinCares.com
