Colleen Rose Berger Cushing

1929 ~ 2017

Colleen passed away on February 19, 2017 at the age of 88. She was born February 16, 1929, in Salt Lake City, UT to Benjamin E. and Constance Stauffer Berger. She came into a warm and loving family with cherished parents, three brothers and one sister. She had many aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom she dearly loved.

She was working at the Veteran's Hospital where she met her true love, James (Jim) Cushing Jr. They married three months later. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their love and marriage brought them joy, contentment and devotion for over 62 years.

They have three wonderful children, Daniel (Sherrill) Cushing, Jolene (Don) Despain and Holly (Steve) Garza. They have 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She loved all music from Classical to Bluegrass. Playing the piano and trying her hand at other instruments was a joy to her throughout her life. She enjoyed poetry and throughout the years committed many favorites to memory. She loved traveling with Jim and occasionally with friends to many countries and most of the United States. After retirement, they enjoyed many spontaneous road trips together. Colleen was a creative seamstress and many friends and family were recipients of her beautiful crib quilts.

She was a lifelong member of the LDS church and served in many callings throughout the years. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service and retired from there after 27 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lewis. She is survived by her husband, two brothers Elmer Berger and Steve (Sally) Berger and sister Jane (Gary) Brough.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm or one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Condolences may be made at www.larkincares.com.
