Darwin Nels Sorensen

1918 ~ 2014

Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Darwin Nels Sorensen, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 26, 1918 in Blackfoot, ID to Nephi William and Arlinda Dean Sorensen. He spent his first 20 years on the farm and his summers in the mountains herding sheep. He married Ruth Ann Schrader March 6, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and spent his lifetime serving in the scouting program. Darwin served with his loving wife Ruth in the Jordan River Temple. Of his many church callings, home teaching was his favorite assignment. He loved to serve the Lord and his fellow men. Darwin was hard working, patient, loving and would do anything that needed to be done. He devoted his life to his family. His legacy is his selflessness to make our lives better. His only complaint was broccoli and any milk other than whole.

Darwin retired as Captain of the Salt Lake City Fire Department having served for 39 years. He was one of the first 3 members of the Salt Lake City Firefighters Credit Union and served on the supervisory and credit committees for many years. He also worked in the building industry.
