Larry Brent Nickell

1957 ~ 2015

Larry Brent Nickell, our witty husband, father and grandfather, died in a tragic work accident on Monday, November 9, 2015.

Larry was born January 15, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Brent L. and Stella Nickell. He was the only boy in a family of sisters. He graduated in 1975 from East High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He married his high school love, Karen Swenson, on May 18, 1979. Larry attended the UofU and SLCC, and later became a Master Electrician. Afterwards, he started his own successful business, Electrical Contractors Plus.

Larry enjoyed bow hunting, fishing and camping. He loved spending time in the mountains, which he happily referred to as "God's Country". Larry was an avid Utes football fan. He never missed a game and passed that same passion onto all his girls. Karen and Larry enjoyed traveling. They spent time in Washington, D.C. just last week, exploring the city together. They loved to visit their house in Mesquite, where they would golf and go for RZR rides on the mesa. Larry enjoyed teaching his daughters how to fish and hike, as well as how to pitch a tent and change a flat tire. He loved to wake them up early by loudly singing songs that he made up. In the last few years Larry became a grandpa, he loved that new job. He quickly gave his grandkids their own nicknames, just like all his other family members and friends.

Larry is survived by his sweet wife; Karen, his three daughters; Lisa (Brian) Howell, Cortney (Colby) Barker, Jamie (Garrett) Blaisdell, two grandkids; Addison and Davis Barker, sisters; JoLynn Carlson, Debbie Nickell, and his two cats; Buddy and Dude. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Brenda.
