Anita Mayer Jenkins

1959 ~ 2018

Anita Mayer Jenkins passed away March 28, 2018 in Salt Lake City of natural causes. She was born March 23, 1959 in Salt Lake City to Keith S. and Bettie Mayer Jenkins. She attended Rose Park Elementary, Clayton Junior High, and Highland High School. She studied journalism at the University of Utah.

Her passion to find answers led her to the Deseret News copy department. She followed her co-workers to Washington DC and worked on Capitol Hill for a small newspaper. After five years, she was hired by the Smithsonian Institute as they were opening the African Art Museum. She worked at the Smithsonian for twelve years and due to health problems, she retired early and moved back to St. George to be with family. Anita has been residing in care centers for the past three and half years in St. George and Salt Lake. Anita loved her niece Angie who was very kind and helpful to her. Everybody who knew Anita felt her love and knew that she was a kind and generous person.

Anita is survived by her brother Glen M. Jenkins, St George, and her niece Angie Perry, Vermont. Preceded in death by her parents and her brother Brent K. Jenkins.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 4th at 1:00 pm in the Newton City Cemetery, Newton, Utah. Friends and family may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Tuesday evening, April 3rd, from 6:00-8:00 pm.
