Ferris Earl Hillyard

1921 ~ 2016

Ferris Earl Hillyard, 95, of Salt Lake City, died on Monday, August 1, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Smithfield, Utah to William Hazen and Ruby Sena Hillyard. He graduated from North Cache High School and subsequently from the University of Utah with honors in Economics. He served for 2 Ω years as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Spanish American Mission and then saw duty in the US Navy during World War II. After earning an MBA from Stanford University, he went on to work many years for the Defense Department.

In 1949 he and Faye Mansell were married in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Together they raised four children. He served in many LDS Church callings throughout his life including bishop of the Monument Park 7th Ward from 1990 to1995. For 45 years, he maintained a beautiful, productive half acre garden which became a regular meeting place for his family.

He is survived by his wife Faye, children Robert (Robyn) Hillyard, John (Janine) Hillyard, Marilyn (James) Marchant, and Mary Ann (Gil) Miller, 15 grandchildren,7 great grandchildren, two sisters, Marva Egbert and Eunice Davis. Preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Hansen and brother H. Randall Hillyard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Salt Lake Foothill Stake Center, 1933 South 2100 East, SLC, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 pm Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, SLC, UT and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the services at the church.
