Forest Andresen Hansen

1929 ~ 2015

Forest Andresen Hansen, age 85, Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, passed away January 6, 2015 at his home of causes incident to age. Forest was born Friday, December 13, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Wilford Abraham Hansen and Anna Helene Caroline Andresen Hansen. Wilford was a plumber, and Anna Helena was lovingly known as Puddin\. He was named Forest because his mother wanted him to be a friend of animals, such as in the Black Forest in Germany. Forest grew up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake. Brothers were Warner and Keith, and sisters were Nita and Marie. Forest graduated from West High School in 1948. Forest served in the National Guard from June 1948 to December 1949 and served an LDS mission from 1950 to 1952 in the East Central States Mission. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in May 1952 and served in the Korean War, was honorably discharged in April 1954, and served in the Army Reserve until January 1960. While in the Army Reserve, Forest studied accounting at the University of Utah, held a full time job, and graduated with honors in 1959. He was Secretary of the Alpha Beta Gamma Business Fraternity, serving with its president and his good friend, Bruce Stucki, whom he had nominated to be president.

Forest married Karen Anderson in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 1951 and later divorced. He was employed by Hercules Incorporated (later known as Alliant Technical) initially as a general clerk in the accounting department and later as a computer programmer/accountant. In 1950\s Forest\s father helped him purchase his first house in the Sugarhouse area. Over the years he enjoyed purchasing and fixing up nearby properties to generate additional income. Forest never wanted to have to depend on anyone else for his support. Forest\s hobbies also included woodworking, boating, fishing, traveling, and hunting. As an active Latter-day Saint he performed many callings over the years. He especially enjoyed being the Priesthood meeting organist and loved music, encouraging his children to take music lessons.

Forest is survived by his children: David A. Hansen, Kari H. (Earl) Marshall, Andrea (Nathan) Seely, Christoffer (Charlotte) Hansen, and 17 grandchildren (14 grandsons and 3 granddaughters).

Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on January 9, 2015 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. on January 10, 2015. at Wasatch Ward, 1750 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84105. Interment follows at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
