Jonathan Lane Cook

1955 ~ 2016

Jonathan Lane Cook passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving family and in the arms of his dear wife Elizabeth. Jon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 2, 1955 one of eight children born to Calvin Clemens Cook and Nadine Elise Cook.

Jon attended East High School, where he excelled at football, track and water polo. It was there he earned the title of Mr. Touchdown. After high school he attended the University of Utah, joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and made many lifelong friendships. Jon left the U to serve in the Japan Kobe LDS mission from 1974 to 1976. As a missionary he gained a great love for the Japanese people and language.

After his mission Jon returned to the U where he met and married the love of his life Elizabeth Anne Dahlstrom. Jon graduated from the University of Utah in 1980. After graduating Jon formed Wade-Cook Property Management company. He also began working as a partner at Appraisal Associates and in 1985 he became a member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers (MAI). In October 1993 he formed his own appraisal company, The Cook Group, LLC where he was President and Owner. He was on the Board of Directors of the Utah Chapter of the Appraisal Institute for seven years, and served as its President. He was a pioneer in the development of a large non-profit database sharing organization Comp-U-Share, Inc.

Jon was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in a variety of positions throughout his life. He loved serving as Bishop of the Parley's First Ward, and in several other bishoprics. He especially loved his calling as Scoutmaster where he was able to teach and inspire young men and take them on many adventures to Moab and Lake Alexander among others. He truly loved working with his wife Elizabeth in the Salt Lake Temple Baptistery.

Most of all Jon loved spending time with his family and always made time for family vacations to Bear Lake, Sun Valley, and Hawaii, which usually included biking, skiing and scuba diving. Jon was an avid sports fan and never missed an opportunity to watch or coach his children and grandchildren. He also loved cheering on the Utes and Utah Jazz.

He will be missed by his wife Elizabeth, and five children Emily (Lance) Bullen, Jonathan Cook Jr., David (Richelle) Cook, Eliza (Andrew) Harvey, Caroline (Cameron) Hale, and his 7 grandchildren William, Matthew, Kathryn, Henry, Isabelle, Olivia and James. He is also survived by six of his siblings: Kathi, Elizabeth, Michelle, Julie, Richard and Mark. Jon was preceded in death by his father and mother as well as his older brother David.

Funeral Services will be held at12:00 NoononMonday May 2, 2016at the Parley's Stake Center Chapel (1870 East Parley's Canyon Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah 84109). A viewing will be held at the same location thatMondaymorning from10:30 to 12:00 Noon, andon Sundayevening from6:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
