Shirley Joy Nordgren

1933 ~ 2015

Shirley Joy Nordgren, 82, of Salt Lake left this mortal existence on June 23, 2015 after patiently enduring many months of declining health.

Shirley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 16, 1933. She was the daughter of LaGrand John and Lorna Marie Bates Nordgren.

Shirley married Finau George Liti and together they had two children, Melanie and Steve. They later divorced. She grew up in Salt Lake with her brother and sister. She was a devoted and faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings over the years. She attended both BYU and the University of Utah. She worked different jobs at different times but she really enjoyed the time she spent as a grade school teacher.

Shirley greeted everyone with a smile that could light up the room. She loved to sing. She was often asked to share this gift by singing during Relief Society and in community holiday programs. She especially loved to attend the yearly Handel Messiah Sing-In held by the Taylorsville Stake.

Shirley's family has good memories of many happy hours spent with her rock hunting and then polishing the rocks to place in her collection. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother.

She is survived by her sister Doreen Robbins, her brother David Frederick Nordgren, her children Melonie (Doug) McKean of Ogden, Steven Liti of Salt Lake, and one grandson Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Destiny.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 12 Noon in the Millcreek Stake Center Chapel, 4220 South Jeannine Drive (420 East), Salt Lake City. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah.
