Ivy W. Spencer

1922 ~ 2016

Ivy Woodhead Spencer, 94, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born January 29, 1922, in Rochdale, England, to John and Isabella Woodhead. Ivy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Hazel, and her husband, Eddie.

Ivy spent her early years in England, helping to run the family bakery, with her mom, dad and sister, Hazel during WWII. She served an LDS mission in London. In 1944, she married Wilford Joseph Robinson. In 1948, she immigrated to Salt Lake City with Wilford, her son, David John, and her parents. Later, she and Wilford divorced, and she was a single working mother for many years. In 1967, she met James Edward Spencer, who had also emigrated from England, and they married in the Salt Lake Temple. Eddie had two sons, Michael and Stephen.

In 1971, Ivy and Eddie served an LDS mission in eastern Canada that included supervising the Church's exhibit at the Montreal World's Fair. After she retired, Ivy was, for nearly seven years, the Relief Society President at the Hillside Villa Nursing Home. She also spent many years as the secretary for the charitable organization, PJ's Forgotten Children. Because of her outgoing nature and her obvious love for people, she was loved by and will be missed by many.

She is survived by sons, David J. Robinson, of Roy, Utah, Michael Spencer of England, and Stephen M. Spencer of Kansas, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
