Beth Lorraine Gremillion Atwood

1926 ~ 2014

Beth Lorraine Gremillion Atwood , a wonderfully elegant lady and most beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on July 28, 2014. She was born on June 18, 1926 in Murray, Utah to James and Erma Olson. Beth was very popular in school, and had many friends. She was a farm girl, and knew how to ride horses, feed the animals, and collect eggs. Most of all, she knew how to work. She also loved leading her school band, and was the drum major in 9th grade. Beth loved the fine arts throughout her entire life. She loved to ballroom dance, sing, play the piano, and paint. Most people took one look at her height, and were a little intimated because she was so elegant, and self- assured. Quickly they found that she was also warm, kind, and lots of fun. She spent a great deal of time around 8 young ladies who called themselves the Merry Weather Girls Club. The girls stayed together for years, and found great consolation in each other. Beth lived through the dark days of the depression, and lost her mother at the tender age of 11. She relied on her older sister, and best friend, Ruth throughout her teen years, and the later years of her life, until she passed away at the age of 43. She continued her singing where she sang with a group called the Shubert singers. Shortly after this, Beth met a young military man, by the name of Fred and soon they were married. The result was a family of three boys that she loved and cherished with all her heart. These boys were the pride and joy of her life. Although the first marriage ended in divorce, about ten years later, Beth met a wonderful man by the name of Eugene Atwood. This man changed her life. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 30, 1976. He provided laughter and joy to the home with his positive, caring attitude. Eventually her three sons were sealed to Beth and Eugene, becoming an eternal family. After her beloved Eugene passed away, Beth went on two separate missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first was to Richmond, Virginia, and the second mission she served was in Perth, Australia. Mom did a marvelous job as a missionary. She was efficient, kind, and soon all that met her were better off. She loved the people and they loved her. Upon her return, she served as a hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom finished her last earthly assignment to the Lord this past Monday. She passed onto the other side, where she rejoined her beloved family. Beth leaves this earth with a legacy of love, sacrifice, diligence, hard work and absolute devotion to family and to her Father in Heaven. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Dr. Jim Gremillion (Sandy), David Gremillion (Carolyn), and Dr. Richard Gremillion (Pam). Her memory continues with 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous step sons and daughters and their children and grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate her life at a viewing to be held Friday, Aug. 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary 260 E. So. Temple in Salt Lake City. An additional viewing will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the 27th East Ward, 185 No. "P" St. in Salt Lake City, and all are welcome to attend her funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. that morning.
