Louise Goates Burns

1943 ~ 2019

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Louise Goates Burns, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Louise was born in Salt Lake City to Wallace A. Goates and Roma Tolton Goates on October 17, 1943. She graduated from Highland High School where she was a member of pep club, Hi Debs and an a-capella girls trio. She went on to graduate from BYU with a degree in Child Development. While there, she was a member and executive officer of Angel Flight, a women's service organization. She was also a soloist for the Angel Flight Choir.

A faithful and life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Louise served in various leadership and supportive capacities, most often working with children. But it was her personal knowledge of and love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, that sustained her throughout her life.

Louise loved children. Her second greatest joy in life was teaching as a lead pre-school teacher in both public and private school settings. In her impressive career, she taught more than 1,200 children to read, one-on-one. She was dedicated to the children she taught; she loved them and loved seeing the delight of learning reflected in their faces.

However, the greatest joy in life for Louise was raising her six children. She loved spending time with her family. She was a strong, independent woman and taught her children to become successful adults through word and example.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bert and David, her sister Julie and her son Michael (Gayle L. Burns). What a joyous reunion that was!

She is survived by her children: Steven P. Burns (Linda M. Burns), David A. Burns (Lori J. Burns), John C. Burns (Kendra K. Burns), Carol L. Watson (Kristofer J. Watson), Beth B. Park and twelve grandchildren who will all miss her dearly.

Louise will be laid to rest at Larkin Sunset Lawn: 2350 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT.

The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the care staff at Hidden Valley, for their tender care and attention to Louise's every need. We would also like to thank the staff at house call doctors, Sandra Jense, DNP, ACNP-BC and hospice care. We are truly grateful for all you did for Mom.
