Barbara Schenk Felt

1923 ~ 2015

Barbara Ann Schenk Felt died peacefully at home on September 25, 2015. She was born December 10, 1923 in Liberal, Kansas to Betty and Paul Schenk. Her only sibling, a brother, Paul Schenk, Jr., a Navy Air Corps pilot, was killed in the Pacific Theater during WW II.

She married Spencer P. Felt on June 16, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah after he returned from WW II. After she married, Barbara taught Freshman English at the University of Utah. All of her children and grandchildren benefited from her language skills and grammar lessons. In addition to raising her three children and being a wonderful wife, Barbara extensively volunteered in the community. She campaigned for the Red Cross and Community Chest. She served with the Salt Lake Junior League, which she loved. Barbara served on many boards including the Ballet Guild, Salt Lake Art Center, Salt Lake Town Club, Women\s Board of the Fine Arts Museum and the Neighborhood House.

Barbara\s greatest accomplishments and joys were her family. Spencer and Barbara were married for more than seventy years. They traveled to many parts of the world together. Barbara was always interested in other cultures and places. She is survived by her beloved husband,

Spencer, their three children Paul (Janet), Marianne, and Douglas (Kathryn) and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Mano Richard, Valerie, Jeremy and Marra.

The Felt family wishes to thank Quality Hospice and Home Care Assistance for their excellent care. They especially wish to express gratitude for the loving care given by their grandson, Matt, in her last days.

Friends and family may gather at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1710 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah on October 1, 2015 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts or The Neighborhood House.
