Michael Maack

1953 ~ 2019

We said goodbye for now, but not forever, to our brother, Michael, on February 21, 2019.

Our mother and father, Bette and Julian Maack, gave birth to their first child on January 14, 1953.Michael inherited a gift and love for art and enjoyed his talent of painting and drawing. His favorite mediums were water color, pencil and pottery. He received a BA from the University of Utah in Art History in 1978.He also traveled to India to attend Andhra Pradesh University as part of a student exchange program through the University of Wisconsin. This experience gave him the opportunity to study Sanskrit, art and the religions of India.

Michael loved rock-n-roll music (especially Jimi Hendrix), the Himalaya Mountains, elephants, clouds, collecting rocks and fossils, and drinking Coke.He also loved spending time outdoors hiking, climbing, and skiing.

He had a great sense of humor and his contagious, boisterous laugh would spread to those around him.Michael's unique spirit, which he struggled for most of his life to express, will be missed greatly, but remembered with an equal amount of love.

Michael is survived by his sister, Leslee Gray (Darius), and brothers, Dana (Mardi) and John (Carol) and several nieces and nephews.

Our love and appreciation to all his caregivers, Robin Lewis, Avalon Valley Rehabilitation, Harmony Hospice and Canyon Creek Assisted Living for their nurture and care of Michael.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, to honor Mike, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

Michael, relish your new view of the clouds and mountains. We love you, too!
