Boyd Richard Tate

1921 ~ 2013

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away at home with his family on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Boyd was born in Richfield, Utah, on April 5, 1921, the son of Edwin F. Tate and Florence M. Horne. He was educated in Richfield and Salt Lake City, he graduated from South High School in 1939.

He married Orvilla Johnson (later divorced), they had 3 sons. In 1953 he married Thelma Andrus in the Salt Lake LDS temple she passed away in 2010, together they had 7 children. He married Viola Runyan Sutton on August 10, 2012.

Boyd served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II in Northern Africa and Italy. Boyd loved his country and he was proud to have worn the uniform of his country's armed forces. He worked at HAFB in the Hobby Shop for 31 years where he helped the Shutterbug Amateur Photo Club organize and flourish. He loved the art of photography and taught many others to love it as well. He also worked for ZCMI after his retirement. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in various callings in the church. Boyd loved family history work and devoted countless hours to pursuing genealogical records.

Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Viola, his children: Kenneth, Tana (Niels) Fugal, Brian (Marla), Karon Haraldson, Leah (Carl) Allen, Darrell (Jennifer), Julie Reynolds, Cindy (Brian) Cunningham, daughter-in-law Susann, 37 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and his sister Marjorie Kelson. He is also survived by Viola's eight children, 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, two sons, Tommy, and Rick (Lanette), and one grandson, and one of Viola's children.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, from 6 to 8 pm at the Antelope LDS Church Building at 590 W Antelope Drive in Layton, Utah. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 11 am also at the church. Friends may call upon the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah. The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony Home Health and Hospice for their kind, gentle care of Dad.
